SEHNSUCHT_ LIGHTHOUSE BERLIN
_________ A 45-minute multidimensional audio-visual journey through six emotions in a unique immersive spatial experience.
There are no emotions without thought or reason. Our emotions are the product of the way we interpret what is happening around us. They are at the core of who we are, but there are emotions that – when they find no answer in language – become too confusing to explain.
Romanticism explored all kinds of emotions, some familiar and some completely unfamiliar. One of them is Sehnsucht – a German word that indicates a certain longing for something intangible, the search for something indefinite in the future. That is to say, the desire without a clear objective, the constant longing that leads the human being to never settle for what they achieve or possess, but always pushes them towards new goals.
From 2020 to 2022, during the complicated post-pandemic years, we yearned for an imaginary future. Better than the previous one but inevitably undefined, and we have all felt powerful emotions – contemplative, curiosity, anxiety, calm, rage, happiness. Each of us has experienced them in very subjective and personal ways.
This creation, condensed into one single word: Sehnsucht, was exhibited exclusively for six months at the immersive Lighthouse Berlin space. It offered visitors an unparalleled opportunity to experience these emotions in a multidimensional and deeply personal way, exploring the essence of longing and its impact on the human spirit.
