ATMUS
_________ With ATMUS, we have developed a groundbreaking musical stage action set within an immersive 360º sound and audiovisual environment. This project is an interdisciplinary work that brings together body, movement, soundscapes, 360º visuals, and music, creating a hybrid experience where artists perform live in a fully immersive video setting.
As visual creators, we took inspiration from the rich digital community archive of sound, visual, 360º, and photographic content generated with the participation of citizens during the Bit Lab Cooperative’s sound heritage projects. These archives, rooted in the geographies of Sant Andreu Barcelona (Kaleidoscope 2019), Raval and Sagrada Familia (Noise Maps 2020), Ciutat Meridiana (2021), Llobregat and Cardener (2021), and Besòs (2021), provided the foundation for our creative process.
Our role was to craft the 360º audiovisual environment that frames the performance. The stage action features two trios of musicians arranged in a crescent or accordion formation, performing a bespoke soundtrack composed to harmonize with the community’s sound and audiovisual recordings. Collaborating with musicians Za!, Sara Fontán, and Gambardella, we ensured the visuals and multi-channel surround sound enhance the audience’s sensory immersion.
The show takes place in an immersive cellar equipped with 360º visual projections and a multi-channel sound system. Through this project, we have embraced the challenge of transforming community stories and landscapes into a live performance, blending art, technology, and collective memory into a truly unique experience.
